Peloton equipment may be awesome for keeping fit at home, but they’re also weighty and have lots of delicate components such as touchscreens – so it’s no surprise that plenty of our readers come to us with questions about how to move a Peloton Bike or Tread safely.
Will Peloton move my bike for me? How much does it cost to move a Peloton treadmill? If I move without contacting Peloton will I lose my warranty?
It’s important to do the job properly to avoid causing any damage, and to stay within the terms of your warranty agreement in case the worst does happen.
It’s a problem many of us at BikeTips have faced ourselves, so we’re here to share the lessons we’ve learned with you to ensure you’re properly equipped to move your Peloton equipment – whether it’s just going to a different room or you’re moving house.
Important note: If you intend to move any Peloton equipment yourself, carefully consider whether you are physically able to beforehand. Peloton equipment is very heavy, and improper lifting technique or accidents while moving could cause you serious injury.
Moving Your Peloton Bike Or Treadmill Without Voiding Your Warranty
Peloton will not cover warranty claims that are determined to be the result of improper disassembly, moving, or reassembly.
So, you must take care and follow the instructions detailed in the following sections.
Note that although this information is up to date at the time of publishing, Peloton’s policy is subject to change, so we’d suggest checking them online on the day you plan to move your equipment to be sure.
Will Peloton Assemble/Disassemble My Tread For Me?
At present, Peloton will send technicians to disassemble or reassemble your Tread machine for a callout fee.
These technician callouts cost $175 in the United States or £250 in the United Kingdom to disassemble or reassemble your Peloton Tread or Tread+. This can be arranged through the Peloton support page.
This is optional, and not a requirement. You’re perfectly free to disassemble and reassemble your treadmill yourself, but it’s a little complicated – we’ll cover this later.
Factor in that you’ll need to pay the $175 fee for disassembly, pay the removal company to move it to the new building, and then pay another $175 for reassembly at the new location.
Note that Peloton will send a technician to move a Peloton Tread between rooms on the same floor of your home for a flat fee of $250, however.
Will Peloton Assemble/Disassemble My Bike For Me?
Peloton no longer offers this technician assembly or disassembly service for Peloton exercise bikes. You’ll have to disassemble and reassemble your bike yourself, as per the official guidelines.
If you choose to disassemble, move, and reassemble your Peloton bike or treadmill yourself, this doesn’t void the warranty (though this used to be the case).
Peloton doesn’t offer packing or moving services between buildings for Bikes or Treads. So no matter what, you’ll have to ensure the safe and proper moving of your bike or treadmill either yourself or through professional movers.
How To Move A Peloton Bike in 3 Steps
The first step is to make sure the new space for your Peloton Bike or Bike+ meets space and electrical requirements, as well as the recommended WiFi network speed.
Assuming all is well, you should follow the steps detailed below, whether you’re moving your Peloton Bike between rooms in your home or to a different building.
To disassemble and reassemble a Peloton Bike or Bike+ you’ll need:
- Phillips head screwdriver (regular Peloton Bike only)
- 4 mm Allen Key
- 15 mm Pedal Wrench
- Long 3 mm Allen Wrench (127 mm/5″)
- 3 mm Allen Key (Bike+ only)
Peloton equipment ships with these necessary tools, but if you find you’ve misplaced yours some time since delivery, you may need to make a quick stop at your local bike shop or hardware store.
Step 1. Disassembling A Peloton Bike For Moving
Completely disassembling your Peloton Bike or Bike+ is a must for moving without causing damage which will not be covered by your warranty.
This will mean removing the touchscreen, pedals, water bottle holder, and weight holders.
You can see the detailed instructions for proper disassembly for each of these parts here, as per official guidelines from the Peloton support page.
You do not need to remove the handlebars and seat when moving your Peloton Bike or Bike+, though you should adjust them to their lowest height.
Once the handlebar and seat have been adjusted you can move the bike by lifting the frame onto its wheels.
Step 2. Safely Moving A Disassembled Peloton Bike
With your Peloton Bike or Bike+ disassembled you can now move it to a new location.
We’d suggest covering the Bike with a protective material such as bubble wrap, paying extra attention to any exposed corners and fragile parts such as adjustment levers.
Moving the Peloton Bike To A Different Room on the same floor
You can move the frame of a disassembled bike by using the wheels on the front stabilizer by lifting the frame from the back stabilizer.
Carefully moving the bike to a new room on the same floor for reassembly is straightforward enough, as is moving between floors if you have an elevator. Just make sure you don’t exceed the elevator’s weight limit – Peloton Bikes weigh up to 140 lbs (64 kg).
We’d recommend doing this as a two-person job for extra safety. It’s also a good idea to check for anything the wheels might snag on beforehand, such as metal door bars.
Moving The Peloton Bike Up/Down Stairs or Between Houses
For moving your Bike or Bike+ to a new home or up or down stairs, we highly recommend you use the services of a home removal company.
Make sure they are fully insured, so that you’re covered in case the Peloton is damaged in the move, which may not be covered by your warranty.
As with moving any equipment, you should ensure all parts are kept protected against bumps and vibrations, and stay together for safe transit and straightforward unloading.
Step 3. Reassembling A Peloton Bike
Reassembling your Peloton Bike or Bike+, of course, uses the same tools, and you can see the official guidelines here on the Peloton support page.
How To Move A Peloton Treadmill
The first step is to make sure your the new space for your Peloton Tread meets space and electrical requirements, as well as the recommended network speed.
Note that the Peloton Tread is much heavier than the Peloton Bike (455 lbs for the Tread+ vs 140 lbs for the Bike+), so it’s a much bigger job to move and extra care must be taken.
Moving the Peloton Tread To A Different Room on the same floor
For moving the Tread between rooms on the same floor, you can call out a technician to do the move for you by contacting Peloton Support. The callout costs $250 (or £225).
Alternatively, you can move the Tread between rooms yourself. It has wheels at the front to make the job easier.
- First, set the incline to 2% or higher to raise the Tread’s front feet.
- Turn off the Tread and ensure the power cable is unplugged.
- With one person at the front holding the handrail, and two people at the rear using the handholds to lift it so it is tilted onto the front wheels.
- Carefully roll the Tread to the new room.
Peloton will not cover warranty claims that are determined to be the result of improper moving.
Moving the Peloton Tread Between Floors or Buildings
If you are moving your Peloton Tread between locations you’ll need to disassemble the treadmill for the move beforehand, pack it securely, and reassemble it at the new location.
As Peloton Treadmills are so heavy, we recommend using a professional removal service if moving it between floors or buildings, to avoid putting yourself or the equipment at risk.
As mentioned previously, Peloton will send technicians to disassemble or reassemble your Tread for a fee of $175. This service is just to assemble or disassemble the Tread, and doesn’t include moving it between buildings – you’ll need a home moving company for that.
Note that you’ll need to pay the $175 fee for disassembly, pay the removal company to move it to the new building, and then pay another $175 for reassembly at the new location.
Disassembling A Peloton Treadmill For Moving
Alternatively, you can assemble and reassemble the Tread yourself, but this is a much greater undertaking than with the Bike or Bike+ and involves a much greater risk of damage to the equipment or personal injury.
Peloton is fully aware of this and unlike with their Bikes, Peloton doesn’t readily provide their official guidelines for disassembling and reassembling your treadmill.
You can skirt the callout fee if you’re confident in your ability to disassemble, move, and reassemble your Peloton Tread without causing non-protected damage to the treadmill.
The official personal Tread Moving Guide must be requested from Peloton Support.
Safely Packing A Peloton Treadmill
Whether you opt for a technician callout or not, you’ll need to safely pack up and move your Peloton Tread yourself, Peloton does not offer technician’s services for moving.
The most reliable way to safely move your disassembled Peloton Tread is to hire a home removal company to do it for you.
This way the heavy and sensitive equipment will be handled by professionals, and you won’t have to find money to repair or replace anything in the unfortunate event of damage occurring in transit, which Peloton may not pay out for under the terms of your warranty.
If, however, you opt to do this yourself, the basics for doing this safely, properly, and correctly are as follows.
- Make the Tread’s journey to the next location as smooth as possible. Components can be damaged by bumps and vibrations, and adequate protective packing is not an out-and-out replacement for mapping out a safe route to the Tread’s next location.
- The Tread’s deck must stay flat and the right way up at all times during the move.
- Wrap all parts in moving blankets and further protective materials such as bubble wrap to better protect them against potential damage. This is especially important for the Tread’s touchscreen.
- Tape in place parts that could fall off during transit, such as the red gaskets, for the move.
An experienced home removal team will likely intuitively know to take these measures, but don’t be afraid to ensure proper handling even if you’re not managing moving the Tread yourself.
Peloton may not cover any damage caused in transit which could have been avoided with proper moving precautions.
Reassembling A Peloton Treadmill
As with disassembly, reassembly can be done by a technician, or by following the steps detailed in the Tread Moving Guide which must be requested from Peloton Support. See above for more information.
Note that if you opt for a technician callout for reassembly, this doesn’t include moving the Peloton Tread to the desired spot, so make sure all the components are already in the place you want your Peloton Tread, ahead of the technician’s visit.
